Can Amazon PPC campaigns compete against each other?
Amazon PPC campaigns can compete for your advertising allocation and overlap for the same shopper traffic, but that is not the same as automatically bidding against yourself and raising CPC. For Sponsored Products, Amazon explicitly says that adding different match types to the same keyword does not make you bid against yourself. The phrase can describe several different problems. Two campaigns may be eligible for similar searches, one product may attract more delivery than another, or too much of your overall spending may go toward a low-priority objective. None of these observations alone establishes that your campaigns are directly increasing each other's auction price. For a seller of pruning shears, an automatic discovery campaign and a manual keyword campaign can both find relevant gardening searches. That overlap may be intentional. Judge whether the campaigns discover useful terms and generate worthwhile orders, rather than assuming that any shared query is harmful. Review reported search terms alongside advertised ASINs, match types, bids, budgets and placements. Compare equivalent date ranges and allow recent conversions time to appear. If one campaign gains orders while another loses a similar amount, check combined orders, spend and ACoS before calling the change an improvement. For the pruning shears seller, a campaign for a lightweight model may have different economics from one for a heavy-duty model. Both can be relevant to pruning shears, but their margins and shopper appeal differ. Bid and budget priorities should reflect those differences, not a rule that only one product may use the keyword. Give each campaign a measurable role: discovery, a particular product priority, established search demand or product targeting. If two campaigns serve the same product with the same settings and purpose, consider consolidating management. Separate campaigns remain useful when you need independent budgets or campaign-level bidding controls. Use negative targeting selectively if you want to restrict a search or product relationship in a specific campaign. Make one controlled change at a time where practical, then review combined performance. Query routing can make reports clearer, but it is not a guaranteed CPC reduction or sales increase.
Amazon PPC campaigns can overlap in reach and split spend, but overlap does not prove self-bidding. Learn how to diagnose and manage it.
