What is Amazon search frequency rank?
Amazon search frequency rank is a search term's position in a popularity ranking based on how frequently shoppers searched it during the selected reporting period. A lower number means a more popular term; it does not tell you a product's search position or the exact number of searches. Eligible users can find search frequency rank in the Top Search Terms dashboard within Amazon Brand Analytics in Seller Central. Amazon's Brand Analytics guide describes the dashboard as showing popular search terms, their search frequency ranks, and the top-clicked products with click and conversion shares. For a camping lantern seller, rechargeable camping lantern and outdoor lantern may have different ranks. The lower number indicates the more popular search term in that report context. It does not say that either phrase is the right target for every lantern, or that the seller's product appears at that position. No. Search volume is a count or estimate of how often a term was searched. Search frequency rank is an ordinal position relative to other terms. A rank of 2,000 does not mean 2,000 searches, and a term ranked 1,000 is not necessarily searched twice as often as one ranked 2,000. Search Query Performance can provide search query volume for its selected reporting context. Third-party keyword tools may provide estimated monthly search volume using their own methods. Keep the reporting period and data source visible when using these alongside frequency rank. Use it to prioritise relevant research and compare demand trends over equivalent periods in the same marketplace. A rank moving from 8,000 to 4,000 means the term became relatively more popular. It does not prove that its absolute search count doubled, since the popularity of other terms can change too. Check product fit and the products attracting clicks and conversions before adding a term to a listing or PPC plan. A broadly popular query can be less useful than a specific, lower-demand phrase that describes your product accurately. Seasonal changes also make comparisons across unrelated weeks or months misleading.
Amazon search frequency rank orders search terms by popularity, not product position or exact volume. Learn how to compare ranks in Brand Analytics.
