What is product targeting on Amazon PPC?
Product targeting on Amazon PPC is a Sponsored Products targeting method that lets you select specific products (ASINs) or categories to reach shoppers considering similar or complementary items. It differs from keyword targeting, which matches shopper searches, and it does not guarantee an ad on any chosen product page. In a Sponsored Products manual campaign, choose product targeting rather than keyword targeting for an ad group. You can select particular ASINs or categories, then set bids for the eligible targets. A pet grooming brush seller might target comparable deshedding brush ASINs and a relevant grooming category to reach shoppers weighing alternatives. Product targeting can make an ad eligible for relevant opportunities, including product detail pages and, where Amazon serves them, search results. The selected target is not a reservation for a specific page. The auction, ad relevance, budget, offer eligibility and available ad inventory determine whether a sponsored impression occurs. Choose individual ASINs when you know which products a shopper may compare with yours and have a clear reason your offer is relevant. Consider feature fit, price, ratings, stock and the buyer's use case. Category targeting covers a broader group and can reveal new opportunities, but it may include products that attract less qualified clicks. Where available, use Amazon's category refinements to narrow a broad category by attributes such as price, rating or brand. Keep competitor, complementary and own-ASIN targets organised so you can tell which group produces sales. Avoid assuming that all shoppers viewing a competitor will switch to your offer. In Amazon Ads, review impressions, clicks, spend, attributed sales, ACoS and ROAS for individual targets. Compare the cost of a sale with your margin and target ACoS. Pause or reduce bids for targets that consume enough spend without converting, and consider expanding targets with repeatable profitable results. Use the placement breakdown separately to see whether spend went to product pages or search inventory. A target-level report answers which ASIN or category you selected; a placement report answers where the ad was shown. Neither report by itself proves an ad appeared on every selected product page.
